Areli Carreón

Mexico City

Areli Carreón is an environmental activist with a Master on Rural Development by Universidad Autonóma Metropolitana Xochimilco. She has been member and leader of many successful policy lobby efforts in the past years such as the “Sin maíz no hay país” Campaign to defend Mexican corn varieties from GMOs pollution or the “Hazla de tos” Campaign to update National Norms of Environmental Health for cleaner air. Now she is member of the team leading efforts of the Safe Mobility Coalition that gathers more than 60 Mexican organizations that recently won the recognition of safe, accessible and sustainable mobility as a Constitutional right in Mexico. She is a founding member of Bicitekas A.C., one of the most influential cyclists’ groups in Mexico City and is currently Bike Mayor of the same city.
